About the Activity Center

The Decatur Park District is constructing a new Senior Center Activity Center designed specifically for adults age 55 and older. This facility will expand recreational programming, provide supportive services, and create a welcoming daily gathering place that promotes health, independence, and connection.

Mission

Working closely with the Park District, the Foundation helps advance projects that meet the evolving needs of the community. A key priority is supporting healthy aging and reducing social isolation among older adults. As the population continues to age, the need for welcoming, accessible spaces for connection and activity has never been greater. The Decatur Park District has been committed to providing programs and environments that promote wellness and recreation for adults age 55 and older for more than 50 years. The addition of the Clubhouse at Scovill Acres will expand recreation and create cohesive social services network for seniors like we’ve never had.

Vision

The Clubhouse at Scovill Acres will be more than a building, it will be a welcoming hub for connection, activity, and support. Designed with accessibility, comfort, and community in mind, it will offer:

  • Spaces for social connection and lifelong learning (games and puzzles, community café, golf simulator)
  • Health and wellness programming (fitness, wellness programming, pickleball)
  • Support Services (Medicare enrollment, meals)
  • Resources that support independence and lifelong learning (educational classes, book clubs, tech access)

Seniors

More older adults in our community are at risk of isolation and need opportunities to stay connected, active, and supported. The Clubhouse at Scovill Acres is designed to change that.

From shared meals and Medicare enrollment support to fitness, technology access, and lifelong learning, the Park District has designed the Clubhouse to be an integrated access point to create daily opportunities for older adults to stay active, connected, and involved. Whether it’s joining a card game, attending a class, sharing a meal, or getting help navigating Medicare, the Clubhouse offers meaningful ways for older adults to connect, stay active, and be part of a community.

The Clubhouse is more than a building. It’s a commitment to connection, wellness, and a stronger community for every older adult we serve.

Your Impact and Giving Opportunities

Every gift to the Clubhouse at Scovill Acres helps create a place where older adults stay active, feel connected, and continue to thrive in our community. The Park District has made a $10 million investment in this project, but supporting older adults takes all of us and we need your help. The Parks Foundation is calling on businesses, individuals, and community partners to help make this vision a reality. Support is needed now to equip and open the facility and to sustain it for years to come.

We’ve already raised $150,000, but help us reach $600,000 and bring this vision to life. With your assistance, we can close the gap and open the doors even stronger, allowing the Park District to serve more older adults, expand vital services, and create a welcoming space for connection, wellness, learning, and belonging.

Giving is personal and you can decide how you want to be part of supporting seniors. Whether you step up to help us open the doors, provide scholarships so every senior can participate, or ensure this space remains strong and accessible well into the future, there is no one way to give.

Together, we are building a place to gather, a place to belong.
